Hello! I ordered my first two candles last week, have been looking up You Tube reviews ever since and anticipate a impending addiction. Oh my!
I learned from the videos I watched that different people really gravitate toward different categories of scents. I expect to begin with simple florals and fruits, then bakery, Fall and Holiday scents.
Please clarify for me the matter of curing? One week, two weeks, two months? Different for a 16 oz. candle and a Scent Shot? How much patience must I exercise?
In Slatkin candles I encourage the creation of a mushroom topped wick. I saw advice to avoid that with Victoria's candles. Do you all actually trim the wicks to 1/8 inch?
I ordered Magnolia Blossom and Lily of the Valley in the Designer Bowl Candles. I look forward to ordering Carnation, Hyacynth and Lilac to round out my simple florals. Fresh Squeezed Oranges and perhaps Carmen Miranda may be my first fruit scents. For Fall I'm looking at Coriander and Lime, Snuggle Up, Pumpkin Apple Cinnamon Bread (was looking for Pumpkin Bread), Christmas Apple Cider Snap, and Christmas Kitchen.
I am looking for a Holiday Cinnamon, Clove and Nutmeg candle with as little else as possible. Suggestions, please? Holiday Homebrew?
My eight week report is at the end of this thread, on page 3.

Welcome! My first order was April 1st and I have placed 4 since then. It is easy to get addicted to CBV. I wait as long as I can before I burn. Try to wait at least a week or two with both candles and scent shots. Your nose will let you know when it's ready to be melted. Sometimes I get a scent shot that I dislike on initial cold throw, but love it a month later. The longer the cure time, the stronger and better the scent. If it smells right to you, go ahead and burn it. It will still keep curing after you light it.
I actually do trim wicks to 1/8 inch every time. Make sure you get a full wax pool all the way to the edges on your initial burn. This will help avoid volcanoes.
I love Magnolia Blossom. It is super strong! Coriander and Lime is wonderful! I have snuggle up, but haven't melted it yet. I typically get scent shots on any sniffs that are out of my comfort zone before I get them in a candle.
I haven't dived into any Christmas scents yet, but I bet they are all good.

Thank you Ginger! I'm relieved to know that I don't have to wait two months on everything, and that if I light a candle too soon, the wax can continue to cure afterwards! Now that I've added them to a list I am not finding Coriander and Lime or Snuggle Up. I am wondering which category they fall under?
Love the photo of your kitty! I am owned by a cat too.
Thank you for welcoming me to what I expect will be a delightful madness.

You're welcome! i get very impatient and want to burn immediately, so if it smells like it's ready, I light that baby up.
Coriander and White Lim is in the clean fragrances section. I really liked it. Snuggle Up is in Candleman's Closet section.
I sure do love my kitty! I just wish he my loved hugs and kisses.

Welcome to the boards sweetie! We are glad to have you. Like Ginger said sometimes the cure times vary. I'd say at least wait a week or a week and a half before burning. Sometimes you just have to smell it to tell. If it doesn't smell much like it should then put it away and take it out again a few weeks later. I had that problem with Blueberry Cheesecake. It smelt mainly like Philly Cream Cheese at first and I didn't get much blueberry. I put it away and two months later it was amazing!
Yes, you should always always trim your wicks. Victoria does not use the usual lead wicks so hers re-act differently then the standard kind. If the wick is too long you will have an uneven melt pool, the flame can get really tall, or the flame could start smoking. I know that is a scary experience, but just trim your wick down and it should be fine.
Magnolia Blossom is a very strong pure floral. It is really nice, but unfortunately strong florals give me headaches so I had to pass mine on. But if you love florals that is one I reccomend. Also if you like girly pretty florals you should try Wedding Day. It smells just like a pretty floral bouquet. Now I haven't tried it personally, but I've heard that Victoria's Lilac is a very strong earthy kind of Lilac. I believe it was Jason who said that it smells like it was litterally pulled straight out of the ground. I just thought I should tell you so you know what to expect. Carmen Miranda is really nice. It smells mainly of peaches and oranges to me.
As for cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg scents you should try Amish Quilt. It isn't in the Christmas category, but that is pretty much all the scents it has in it. It is a very kitchen spicey scent. That or try Holiday Homebrew.

Welcome A floral I really love is Daffodil. I have tried Hyacinth in a scent shot and it had a super strong scent throw. Coriander & White Lime is one of my favorites. It is definitely a good one to melt all year round. Sugared Spruce is one I have tried that I think would be great for Christmas however I love it so much I'd melt anytime. It is a spruce/pine scent with a sweet note. Cinnamon Donuts is a yummy delicious bakery scent that really smells like it's name. Anything with Cinnamon is good for Fall for me.

Thank you QueenTakesJack,! I appreciate your advice and suggestions. I will be acquiring a wick trimmer soon!
I have six candles in the house from other and very well know companies and not one of them has a happily strong throw. The Magnolia trees are blooming here in coastal Mississippi and I will have trouble waiting to light my Magnolia Blossom candle when it arrives next week! I will be thrilled to have a change from candle disappointment. I love the Fave lists some of you have on your posts.

Thank you Disalan! I just put Cinnamon Donuts on one of my lists! Thanks for the Thumbs Up on Hyacinth! I found Coriander and Lime on the Scent List and now it's higher on my list. Will it make me want guacamole and tacos? Thanks for the welcome!

I don't get a cilantro scent from Coriander & White Lime. I love lime, and there is definitely lime in it. I get an almost salty fresh scent with it. Not like and ocean salty. That might just be my nose. I also think that it is a pretty neutral scent, hard to place in a category. Peach Magnolia Raspberry is a scent with magnolia that I really find pretty. You can really smell the peach, the magnolia and the raspberry.

I'm so glad that it was useful. I try to post scent reviews at the first of every month. My collection has ammassed quite a bit, but I still have sooo much to go. My goal is to one day try every single scent. Sadly I think I'm just at a little over 100 scents so far lol.

My very first order of two candles arrived yesterday. Magnolia Blossom has great promise already.
I ordered my first scent shots earlier in the week so they could be processed prior to the busyness of the upcoming sale.
Today I ordered my first glitter candles, a Tart Warmer and other goodies on the sale. I'd better start figuring out Scent Shot storage!

What color warmer did you get and what was your final verdict on the glitter candle scent? I keep my scent shots just in one of those plastic drawer containers from Wall-Mart.

Mississippi Gulf Coast. It rained earlier. When I arrived home after running errands, I opened the car door expecting nothing but hot and muggy, but was pleased to breathe in a delectable sweetness. My Gardenia bush had bloomed profusely and my catty-corner neighbor's Magnolia tree had done the same. These flowers have such a short blooming period here. So glad I ordered a Southern Nights Candle this morning! With Glitter!
The other two candles I ordered are in Satsuma and Carnation scents. The Warmer is in Green (I hope for Kelly or Forest Green) which will be great for my home color palette and for Christmas time. Since the wick trimmers are out of stock just now, I'll be placing an order with Amazon this afternoon. This Trimmer will be from the company CleanCut. I am also buying Silicone Baking Cups (for scent shots to melt into), a heart shaped candle snuffer, and a Candle Warmer that looks similar to the CBV one but may not be as it costs $6.
I forgot to look for a four drawer thing at Walmart! I can divide my ordered scent shots into four categories: Bakery, Citrus, Floral, and Holiday, so a four drawer piece should do it. All the ones I've ordered so far will fit into those categories if I group Fall with Holiday. Do I need to wrap them individually in Saran Wrap or are they just fine in their plastic cups and not going to influence each other?
