Fall is now upon us and my friend and I are on a mission to do lots of fun fall type things, because if we have another winter like last year we want to get out and do a lot of things before we are cooped up indoors. So far we plan on going to the zoo in 2 weeks, then we think we will hit up an apple orchard and get some cider and pick a pumpkin from their patch and do a corn maze. Then closer to Halloween see if we can find a good haunted house, carve some cool pumpkins, and pass out candy. But that is really the only plans we could think of. Do you guys have any cool fall events you guys like to do or know of?

That sounds like so much fun! This is my first fall where I don't have to worry about midterms and finals so I'm not too sure what I'm going to do. I know that I would love to go to some sort of haunted event closer to Halloween lol. But besides that I have no clue what I want to do (:

Well, I have one upcoming event consuming my attention. My splendid Himalayan cat AbbieJolie has been gone for one month now. I am making arrangements to adopt a blue eyed, white Ragdoll cat from a Rescue in Ohio. Grief overlaid with anticipation is much more comfortable.
This kitty is going to have her first opportunity in her two years of life to be a loved and pampered pet. I believe she was born into a Ragdoll cattery. Her rescuer tells me that she was a disappointment to the Breeder who wanted her to be a breeder cat. I hope she was treated kindly in that first home. Breeders will often limit themselves on the number of Queen cats that they keep so as not to overreach their capability to care for their cats well. So Molly (name given by the Rescuer, I don't have her original name) was sold because she wasn't producing kittens. Best case scenario is that Breeder One did not know that Breeder Two was what the Rescuer calls a "backyard breeder". I don't know the definition of that but it sounds bad, like caged cats and poor conditions. Breeder two was also disappointed that Molly did not become pregnant. The Rescuer thinks they may have been forced to close down because things were so bad. Poor Molly. Now why Molly was released from the first home without being spayed is a mystery to me. That is what most reputable breeders would do.
When she was rescued and taken to a Veterinarian she was a mess of matted fur, so she was shaved. The Veterinarian found her to be thin, quite reasonably healthy and...pregnant at last. She received pre-natal care for the last Month of her pregnancy, endured a long hard birth, nursed her kittens but was otherwise a negligent Mother, was spayed and finally began to grow her fur out. The four kittens were adopted out in two pairs. Now it is Molly's turn.
She is coming by air, in-cabin with an off duty flight attendant. I ordered things for her travel kit sent to the Rescuer. I have placed orders for fresh new toys(and peacock feathers) and will be setting up her safe room. A cat should only have to figure out one room the first days in a new home. I will meet my new cat on September 30. I have been searching for names that I can say cheerfully. Lacey is in top place so far. I have been playing with Lacey Joy and Elizabeth Lacey (in case I get a boy cat too and name him Mr. Darcy). I will tell her that Lace is always beautiful and frequently white.

Abbie: That is so wonderful that you are rescuing your new kitty especially after the life she has probably had. And I love that you've got Jane Austen names. The book nerd in me is geeking out at the possibility of a kitty Elizabeth and Darcy lol. Let us know how things go with her when you get her home safe and sound. Chelscbv: I'm glad you had fun at camp, did you get to do anything really neat? Jenn: Yay celebrate! You are free for a while! I hope you are staying safe though, the wildfires in California seem to be terrible this year more so than usual. Has anybody here had a pumpkin spice latte? I haven't but everybody seems to be going gaga over the starbucks kind so I am thinking of trying one. If you've tried it can you tell me what it tastes like? Is it just pumpkin flavored coffee or is there something more to it?

Thank goodness that the fires aren't really near me!
I've been going to Starbucks a lot more lately and I know that the pumpkin spice latte is always a huge hit but I never tried it. I'll try it next time I go and give you a report! Lol

Chels: It just goes to show that it isn't about what you do that counts, but how much fun you have doing it. I'm glad you had a great time. Jenn: I'm glad you are staying safe! Lol if you do try the latte I expect a full report in detail the next morning! I just see a lot of people talk about that drink so much that I am curious. Do any of you carve pumpkins? I've noticed it seems to be a dying art as the years go on. I myself am not very skilled, I usually just decorate with sharpie markies lol. But this year I'd like to try a pumpkin stencil and make a cool jack o lantern. Do you guys have any neat ideas or tips?

QTJ, my best literary-association cat name was Greystoke! I can't take credit for it. My former spouse named the big grey tabby tomcat outside our house on Okinawa. Greystoke was Tarzan's family name and this excellent hunter was the king of our little patch of jungle. We trapped him in a have-a-heart trap (had been feeding him for months but were not allowed to touch), took him to the Veterinary office where they anesthetized him and did everything possible in one day. I asked the Veterinarian if we were crazy to adopt this wild cat to live with our beautiful (first) Himalayan and Birman Kitten (who became his dear friend and fellow student). She said these ole' tomcats sometimes make excellent pets. We let him heal from his surgery and let him out of the master bedroom at last. Five months later he let my husband pet him first! He became the Teddy Bear I could set up in my lap for the easiest claw clipping ever. I've been very fortunate in my cats.

No fall plans for me sadly! Not feeling too fall-y here in GA yet, it's getting slightly cooler in the morning but I think once we hit October I think the cooler weather will be fully upon, hopefully!!

Monday is the official last day of summer, I'm going to celebrate it by going to the zoo for my birthday. I don't really make birthday plans that much, but this year I decided to be different...plus I just really want to pet the baby sharks. That is one thing I can cross off my bucket list, pet a shark lol. Of course they are just docile dog sharks I'm not crazy wanting to pet a great white or a hammerhead!

Sometimes, plans change. The Foster Mom of Ragdoll Molly had a situation develop. I shared earlier that Molly's kittens were adopted out in two pairs. One of those kittens developed the more dangerous type of heart murmur and died, poor little thing. A loss this early is covered in the contract the Rescue uses. The bereaved get to choose another cat. The ten year old daughter of the family was enchanted with Molly. So after we all discussed it, she went home with them. Strong willed Molly apparently has more confidence after spending time with her Foster Mom. Her new household reports that she is teaching the ten year old and her four year old sister patience by refusing to go to them unless they are still. Atta girl, Molly!
So I now plan to adopt the other blue eyed white Ragdoll living with the Foster Mom. She has sad story too, so I will need to convince her I plan to provide a forever home to her. This girl, Isis (yeah, not PC just now) is very nurturing with the kittens in the house and is friendler with other cats in the house than Molly was actually. This bodes well for a friendship to grow with the other Kitty in a Rescue that I found on Petfinder. Sushi is a very small shaded silver green eyed Persian who is back at the Rescue because her person died. I expect to have a lot of luscious fur to comb and brush soon. Two cats, Two Rescues and Two states. I have had my Logistician's hat on for figuring out their transportation to me. Isis's Foster Mom is being a big help! The Peacock feathers (great interactive toy for cats) and other toys and scratching pads are arriving. I'll keep you informed!

Congratulations on your new job Jenn!! I'm happy you are in a new place and things are looking good for you again. Did you do anything to celebrate? And I'm glad you liked the pumpkin spice latte, I still haven't been able to get around to getting it but now that it is October I really need to get my butt over to Starbucks lol. I had the pumpkin cheesecake from Olive Garden last week and it was super yummy and I'm not a pumpkin fan so it is making me re-think my whole "I hate pumpkin foods" stance. Abbie, I'm sad to hear about the kitty that is so sad, but happy that everything looks like it will work out in another direction. Sushi is such a cute name and it really is great that you are rescuing them. I hope you get to hold them in your arms soon.
