So I saw a few other boards do this and thought it would be fun for us all to do as well. Basically at the end of every month we all answer a few of the questions I will list below and it will help us not only get to know each other better but also ourselves. Anyways it was something new for us all to do. So since August is over here are the questions... 1. Funniest thing that happened to you in August? 2. Which books have you been reading? 3. Movies you watched in August? 4. Something that made you proud of yourself? 5. Which games did you play? 6. Did you travel anywhere? 7. What new food have you tried? 8. Which songs have you been listening to the most? 9. Favorite products, accessories, clothes, etc? 10. What did you learn? 1. This was hard cuz August was such a sucky month, but I would say I had a total blonde moment the other day that made me laugh at myself. I had made myself a cup of tea and I got the milk out to put just a dash in my cup. Well when I was done I walked back to my bedroom and it wasn't until I was there that I realized instead of grabbing my cup of tea I had carried the milk jug in my room and left my tea in the kitchen. My mind was a thousand miles away and it was kind of funny that I did something so stupid without realizing it. 2. I have read a lot of books this month. Since I will be moving in about 3 months or so I have been going through all my old books that I have had since I was about 13 and reading some of them over again to see which are worth keeping and which are worth donating somewhere. So I've read Demon In My View and Shattered Mirror by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes. (Don't really recommend them lol), Perfect Strangers by Jahnna N. Malcolm, Ghost Girl, and Fall Of Night (don't know the authors at the top of my head) 3. I watched Evil Dead (the new one), Silver Linings Playbook, Warm Bodies (I know that sounds like something gross but it is just a zombie love story lol), Campfire Tales, Urban Legend, and another horror movie called Behind The Mask: The Rise Of Leslie Vernon which was actually better than I anticipated it would be. You can actually watch it on Youtube for free if you want. 4. I am proud of myself for keeping myself together and not falling apart or becoming over stressed out over all the things that have happened to me this month. I feel proud that I have been able to deal with it so well and that I am not letting myself get depressed about the situation and instead have been just focusing on the things that I can do and letting the things I can't work themselves out. 5. I didn't play any games at all this month. I just haven't had the time I guess because it has all been taken up by books and movies lol. 6. Nope not really unless maybe the town over from this one to shop but I don't think that counts. 7. Um, I guess the only thing I can think is I tried a new kind of hamburger helper that I never had before and I tried some new flavors of those big suckers that are like the size of golf balls. 8. The songs I have been listening to the most are Let Her Go- Passenger, My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark & Coffee's For Closers- by Fall Out Boy, Add It Up- This Club, Take Her From You- DEV, and Meant- by Elizaveta 9. Well CBV of course!! To be precise I've been melting my 8oz Exotic candle a lot lately. I switch out scent shots as usual so there hasn't been one I have consistantly melted. But I did really enjoy trying Michelle Branda's Frosted Raspberry Ballini CAS. It was really nice. I've been loving the Pantene Pro V Beautiful Lengths shampoo a lot, and I'd say the two nail polishes I have been using a lot this month have been Zoya's Charla and Lo. 10. I learned that I am a lot stronger than I ever gave myself credit for. I also learned that you can make snowglobes out of mason jars as well as cute pencil, scissor, marker, pen holders out of them as well. Oh and I also learned how to make fairy glow jars.

1. I'm not sure how funny this was but it was embarrassing. My 4th grade daughter was given a birthday party invite on the first day of school. It is not for one of her direct friends but for his little sister. Well the party was in 3 days! Reluctantly I did RSVP for the party even though it was such short notice. Because of my toddlers peanut allergy the plan was going to be to have his sister who is 15 years old watch him. I didn't want his allergy to effect their food plans and I didn't want to worry about the food either. The prior week my dog licked his face and he broke out in hives on both sides of his face. He spit out the antihistamine I tried to give him. I had the EpiPen ready to go and my husband wasn't quite home from work (stuck on a train). I really thought we might have to go to the ER. It was very scary and stressful! I'm telling you this because the other reason I did not want my son to come to the party is that this family has a ranch with lots of animals, dogs, cats, horses, chickens. That morning my son was being a handful and it wasn't fair to leave him with his sister. It was a very rough morning and I just abandoned the plan to go to the party. Figuring everyone was rushing around for the party, I didn't call. The next week was Back To School Night. The first thing the mother said to me was "So your daughter told my daughter my why you didn't come to the party". I said "oh really". Apparently my daughter told hers that "my mom slept in and we missed the party". The other mother repeated that part pretty loud and we had other parents around us. My reply was "I have a toddler, I don't ever sleep in". I don't think she was being cruel to me but it was very embarrassing. The new rule is unless I have a weeks notice for a birthday or event the answer is no. Also I should have called after the party to explain/apologize why we didn't come. 2.I hate to admit it but I don't read nonfiction books. Most of the books I own are reference books. I have books about gardening, soap making, essential oils ect. I feel like most of the reading I do is done on the internet or magazines. My girls are both avid readers and even my toddlers book shelf is bursting at the seams. Well that being said I have read Are You My Mother?, lots of Berenstain Bears, The Three Little Pigs (I love to do the voices), many Dr. Seuss books ect. I'd love to find a book called the Runaway Pumpkin. We owned this book and somehow lost it. It is a fun Halloween book to read to kids. By golly I found it in a YouTube video, bless you YouTube! 3.I also watched Evil Dead (I prefer the original)! That movie only got 2 1/2 shirt sniffs from me. When ever I watch a scary movie I tuck my nose into my shirt, allowing only my eyes to peer over the top. My husband says I'm sniffing my shirt :/. So the scarier a movie is the more "shirt sniffs" it gets....yes we're not normal. Not my first time watching Slumdog Millionaire but I was finally able to get my husband to watch it with me. I also watched Pans Labyrinth (a favorite), Oblivion (much better than I thought and reminded me a bit of Moon, a must see movie), The Water Horse (look for "The Governor" from the Walking Dead), Astro Boy, and I'm sure I'm forgetting a lot especially kids movies. 4.Wow, this is tough. I am proud of my kids all of the time but I can't think of anything that I am particularly proud of this month. I wrote a poem this month (untitled). I write probably one or two poems a year unless I'm upset and I was upset. I like it but some might find it offensive, I don't write about roses and butterflies, I'm not a psycho but my poems are usually dark. It was fueled by something my mom posted on FB (I have a love hate relationship with FB) and she thought it was about her. Long story short it caused quite the feud after her husband not my friend on FB messaged me saying that my mom took as a personal attack....My family has some sort of drama every couple of months. So I guess I am proud that something I wrote caused such a stir in a few people. Isn't art about making people feel something? 5.Games, games, games, I am surrounded by gamers . We played a Tetris card game that was fun. I briefly played the hot game everyone in my family is playing, Ridiculous Fishing. I called it retarded fishing because I just couldn't get into it. 6. I didn't go anywhere this month I am in desperate need to be surrounded by trees. 7. I made a dessert with crescent rolls and cream cheese called Sopapilla (Italian) or Mexican Cheesecake. It was really easy. I'm not sure how authentic it was but it was tasty and absolutely horrible for you I also tried a new pork chop recipe that everyone seemed to like. Raspberry Creme candies from Tootsie made their way into my belly and so did Luigi's Raspberry Sherbet. BTW at 36 years old I guess I never knew "sherbet" was the originally spelling and not "sherbert". Oooo, inserting this into #10 8. When I drive by myself I listen to the classical music station. I did revisit an old favorite song called This Month Day 10 by CSS, Evil Bee by Menomena (trippy video), and my husband usually has The Minibosses playing. My youngest daughter really likes Imagine Dragons so I've heard their music a lot this month too. Even though my car is OLD it might be time to upgrade the stock stereo. I sing all of the time, my own made up silly songs about eating dinner, to well just about anything, rapping about broccoli.... I can't carry a tune to save my life. 9. CBV wax all the way! Enjoy Life is a company that makes allergy safe foods and I love love their mini chocolate chips and new to me their mega chocolate chunks My daily make up routine includes Complete All Day UV Moisturizer SPF 15 Sensitive Skin, Purminerals 4-in-1 pressed mineral makeup foundation, Aveeno chapstick, black eyeliner, and Maybelline Great Lash mascara in black. I also use either my CBVBB Sexy In Stilettos body spray or their Dark Kiss. I got a new pair of glasses this month. I and even though I only wear them at home I love them! Also my contacts are a new brand to me, Biofinity....much more breathable than the brand I had used for years. 10. At 36 years old I guess I never knew "sherbet" was the originally spelling and not "sherbert". www.examiner.com/article/is-it-sherbet-or-sherbert

It's funny I saw The Govenor from The Walking Dead in the BBC Sense & Sensibility remake and just could not believe he played Colonel Brandon. He did it really well but I kept expecting him to pull out an eye patch, a southern drawl, and go crazy one everyone lol.
Oh FB the love hate relationship we have with it. People tend to make big fusses over little things they usually wouldn't elsewehere on there. Reason why I never update my FB and very rarely use it. I mainly just lurk from there lol. But hopefeully everything worked out for you and your family in the end. You should be able to express yourself freely though.
I didn't know Sherbet whas how it was spelled either... my question...why? Why do we say sher-bert so doesn't it stand to reason it should be spelled that way?

I've always heard it pronounced sher-bert as well. My friend who lives in the south calls a shopping cart a buggy, I've always called it just a cart. However my grandmother who has lived California her whole life called it a buggy as well. Pop, soda, coke........we all live in the same country but yet there are words that are more commonly used in certain parts of the country. My husband is from New York and he calls athletic shoes sneakers however I call them tennis shoes. How did you like Evil Dead? Do you like scary movies? I have been disappointed with scary movies lately. I don't quite understand the hype the Paranormal movies get. I just watched a movie called Maniac with Elijah Wood, I think he looks like the perfect psycho. The Stuff is a pretty funny B horror movie. Let the Right One In is a Swedish subtitled movie worth watching and the English version Let Me In is also worth a watch. The Whole Foods Market we have here has a huge selection of Zoya nail polishes. I haven't bought any myself but I love the names! I have a large box of nail polish I need to go through and toss out old nail polish. Does anyone know how long nail polish lasts? Fairy glow jars sound great! You will have to let us know how to make them

I liked the Evil Dead for what it was. Not my favorite horror movie altogether but I'm glad they just stuck to trying to do horror instead of going for the dark comedy/horror that the original was because if they went that route I think it would have failed. The 80's version is so iconic that I think they were best sticking to the typical "cabin in the woods" type of movie. I mean the over the top clay animation is what made the original so funny and yet so good because it was something horror fans hadn't really seen at that time. Now I think everything has been done and horror fans like myself are somewhat desensitized by everything.
I grew up on horror movies so I am a hardcore fan. My mom and dad used to let me stay up and watch Tales From The Crypt with them when I was like 8. (I was never afraid of what I watched. My older brothers who are both 4 years older than me had already tried scaring the pants off me since I was born so I became acclimated pretty quickly)So to this day I try and seek out any good horror films. Like you I have kind of felt that the recent horror releases have been...for lack of a better word, lackluster. Everything has become kind of predictable which looses that gripping horror factor for me. I think the last horror film I really liked was Insidious so I look forward to Friday the 13th when Insidious 2 comes out. I feel like everyone goes for the gore factor or the "ghost factor" anymore. I personally like those movies like Signs where they had such "subtle" horror moments like when Mel Gibson is talking to his daughter in bed and he looks out the window and you see that silhouette just standing on that roof looking in. Little things that are kind of indirect like how Joaquin Pheonix saw the alien on the news and it was shot like a kids birthday party. Those kind of moments have that "wow" factor to me rather than someone just getting diced up in the bloodiest way possible.
I haven't seen Maniac but I am certainly adding it to my list of movies to see come closer to October. I have seen the oringinal Let The Right One In. I liked how dark they made the kids in the original version as opposed to the American version though I do like both. I just think the Swedish one didn't sugar coat or gloss over the little boy's mental state.
And fairy glow jars are super simple. You just buy different colored glow in the dark paint and get out a clean mason jar. With a small, but long handled paintbrush you just stipple little dots all over the jar. You want them to be small and each color to be surrounded by the other colors instead of just one large block of the same color. The little dots should be sporadic and kind of close together because these are your stars. Then you set the jar in the sun to dry and obsorb the UV light. Then at night just put a lid on it and put it in a dark room. Ta-da! Fairy glow jars!

I loved Tales From The Crypt! My oldest daughter is 15 and refuses to watch anything scary with us. She doesn't like Signs because even the music creeps her out. Donnie Darko is another one I feel she must watch. M. Night Shyamalan's The Village is one of my of favorite movies and I can't understand why so many people I have met don't like it :/ Lady In The Water is one I wasn't a fan of but maybe I need to give it another chance. I definitely think you described the "subtle horror moments" of Signs perfectly, the movie was really done well. I have a little crush on Joaquin Phoenix too so that movie is win for me no matter what. The Mothman Prophecy had me second guessing every red light in the night for quite awhile. Maniac wasn't great and it was gory (not the worst I've seen but made me cringe)I just think I'd like to see Elijah Wood in more roles of like that. Sin City wasn't good to me all but it was Elijah Woods character in that movie that really made me want to see him as a psychopath. What are some of your favorite horror/thriller movies old or new? I need to be scare, creeped out, sniff my shirt more than 2 1/2 times..... Those fairy glow jars look totally doable! My crafty 9 year old agrees and would like to make them soon

Lady In The Water wasn't one of my favorites either. I think it is because I was expecting something scary and that show really just wasn't. It was more of a fantasy mystery in my book. I have yet to see The Mothman Prophecy. I remember when it came out my family rented it but I think I fell asleep before it even started and over the years I have just forgotten about it. I'm going to see if I can track it down on youtube if not I may have to talk my guy friend into watching it with me. I don't have a problem watching scary movies alone (I do it all the time) but I like watching them with other people and seeing their reactions and if the movie is bad we can all pick it apart and laugh at it.
Some of my favorite horror stories...oh boy that is so hard I have seen so many that my mind is coming up blanks in certain areas. But I know for sure some of my favorites are Signs and Insidious which I already mentioned, Thirteen Ghosts with Matthew Lillard and that guy from Monk (I like this one because it is so different from everything I've seen before and I liked the original plot line) Hellraiser, (The Cinnabites still give me the heebie jeebies they are nasty) Jeepers Creepers,(I know the name sounds horrible but I actually liked the movie and it has Justin Long in it) the Chucky films will always hold a special place in my heart not because I find them particularly scary but just that I like Chucky's Jack Nicholson voice lol. Silence of the Lambs is another one that I don't find scary at all but I just love Dr. Lector. I like old ones like Candyman, The Shining, and such but The Omen is one of those movies that to this day still creeps me out just like Poltergeist. The atmosphere of those two movies and the creepy adults and children just still have this way of getting under my skin.
I feel like I am forgetting a lot of great horror movies I love but can't think of them at the moment. :S I love all forms of horror so which ones are your favs?

I'd prefer to watch a movie with someone because like you said it is more fun to talk about it with someone else when it's over. As much as I dislike the Paranormal movies my husband and I have seen every one of them for the sheer fact that we like to poke fun at them. I know I liked Insidious but I believe it was one I watched alone and should watch again before seeing the second. Sometimes I swear I'm losing my memory because my husband can remember ever detail of a movie he has seen 20 years ago but not me. OMG I saw one of the Hellraisers in the theater, I think I could have been 13-15 years old, absolutely scary! I have seen Jeepers Creepers and it was one of those movies I had to yell at the characters. Oh the Chucky films......my poor baby sister had bright red hair and a Chucky hair cut, I swear everyone said she looked a lot like Chucky and she was a toddler when the movie came out....yes it was very creepy. In the Mouth of Madness is a good one. There is something very scary about evil children. There is a part in the Mouth of Madness where one of the evil children says "do you know what today is?, It's mommy's day and you're my mommy!". My husband told our oldest daughter to say this to me on Mothers Day when she was a toddler....smh. She of course never saw the movie. Even though the Fly may not be the scariest movie the "fingernail" part still makes my skin crawl. I'm seriously drawing a blank right now too. IT, had me afraid of taking a shower for a while, not that I skipped taking one but I had my eye on that drain for a good month. When I was about 13/14 I watched the third Exorcist and ended up sleeping with my mom that night LOL. Wolfcreek had me squirming, a lot of gore, I can't watch that one alone. The same goes for the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, I can't watch that alone either. I have yet to see the "new" one. I was for sure my son was going to be born on Halloween, however he was a week late and was born November 7th (Billy Grahams Birthday and I tell everyone my grandma who had passed away a few months before my son was born had everything to do with that, yes me the skeptic ) It is probably for the best he wasn't born on Halloween because we named him Michael..

Lol I'm the same way with my mom. I remember bits and pieces of almost every horror movie I've seen but my mom and I can watch something one month then a month later she forgets it completely until she starts to watch it again and then it jogs her memory. I think that is pretty common because I forget most action movies I've seen until someone starts filling me in on a lot of things then I'm like "Oh, that one okay I got you."
I've never heard of In The Mouth Of Madness but evil children never fail to be creepy to me. There is just something so wrong with killer children. Like Gage on Pet Cemetery to this day gives me the willies not just because he was evil but because he was so adorable like a little cherub. And seeing him as a normal cute happy baby boy in the beginning and then what he turns into was like OMG NO! I can't believe the guy who played him was like 3-4. How do you get a child that young to act? Especially a little boy?!
Rofl at your husband. It sounds so sweet and cute but once you get the reference it ruins it a bit lol.
I feel the same with The Ring as you do about The Fly. I don't think it is the scariest thing and what not but those creepy bizzare shots on that video tape was just weird and disturbing and then when you see the fingernails split that just instantly makes me shiver. I can't deal with nails tearing off or teeth being pulled out. That's an instant cringe in my book. And it wasn't until very recently that the clown Pennywise in IT was played by Tim Curry. I don't know how I've gone all these years never piecing that together...
And I forgot about Wolf Creek! As far as plot goes I didn't think it was that great but man that Australian guy was scary! I think he wouldn't have been so creepy to me if he wasn't Australian. For some reason when I hear an Australian accent I think of Stever Irwin and happy good natured people and to hear the same accent in a horrible torture scene (the spine scene) was just wrong. Like ny delusions of Australians all being wonderful laid back happy people just was shattered and I was forced to look at reality.
To this day I refuse to watch any posession movies because I made the mistake of watching the oringinal Exorcist when I was 6 or 7. (My parents had forbidden it but hello new babysitter!) I have been scarred for life ever since. That will forever be the most terrifying movie I have ever watched. Not just because I was so young but because even now some of those scenes just...no. I will never ever watch that movie ever ever again! If I even see a commercial or something talking about it on tv I immediately change the channel or leave the room. It still to this day has stuck with me so badly and because it is supposedly based on a true story just makes it even worse. Because as a Christian even though I'm not a very devout one just the thought of being possesed by the devil...I mean how do you win against that? You can't! All you could do if that did ever indeed happen to you is pray that God saves you. All my friends and family laugh at me for it because I am not kidding I even just hear that theme music and I am bolting out of the room. Give me any other horror movie and I'm perfectly fine. Show me a picture of Linda Blair in that movie and I turn into a little girl hiding in her room with every light turned on in the house. It is that bad... Do you have any movies like that, that just stick with you even to this day and even though your all grown up now?
Pretty neat your son was born on Billy Grahams birthday. My mom was actually born on Halloween at 3 in the morning. That's why Halloween has always been a big deal to me cuz it isn't just my favorite holiday but it is her birthday as well. So I always decorate and get excited and pass out candy. Is it just me or is Halloween kind of dying out? Maybe it is just in my small town but the Halloween displays used to be huge in the stores now they are like one isle and as each year passes I'm getting less and less trick or treaters and we live in a nice quiet suburban neighboorhood. Is this just where I live or have you guys been noticing this travesty too?

The movie that stuck with me for a LONG time was Scream. Yes, I know, it's a parody movie, but i am not a scary movie person whatsoever.
For my sisters birthday party a few years ago (she's now a senior), she decided she wanted to watch a scary movie for the first time. My parents said we could watch scream because it was rather mild. We watched it around 9 AM (we were too scare to watch it at night in our creepy basement) and I was just so terrified. To this day I will not watch a horror movie.
Cayla, I'm the same way. Exorsicm is not my thing. I can't even watch a commercial without it sticking in my mind. The worst, though, is when I'm home alone and a horror commercial comes on. I'm already a little paranoid being alone, but that makes everything 100 times worse!

Exorsicm is not my thing. I can't even watch a commercial without it sticking in my mind. The worst, though, is when I'm home alone and a horror commercial comes on. I'm already a little paranoid being alone, but that makes everything 100 times worse! Scream will always be a classic to me. I know it is a parody movie, but at the time it came out it was pretty genius. No other movie before it had ever had the cast be aware of the horror movie cliches of the genre. Now because everybody recognizes that ghostface mask and now every horror movie seems to know the "rules" of the horror film it doesn't seem as great as it did when it first came out. But I personally have a soft spot for it and think it was pretty great considering it came out in like the mid 90's when the only horror films that were doing well at that time were things like "Silence Of The Lambs" and they had the guts to go and do something in another direction. But enough raving about the movie lol. To me the things that are based on real events are the scariest. Because somewhere it "may" have happened to someone and that is just a horrifying thought. When it is only a writer thought up movie then there is this almost kind of "safety net" mentality. When you start to get scared you can always remind yourself, "Hey, it's just a movie. It's not like that actually happened or anything." But when it is inspired by a true story you don't have that safety net to fall back on. In the movie I sit there and think, "This actually happened to someone..." and then my stomach churns because I absorb more of the true horror of it. That's another reason why I cannot watch possesion movies that are based on actual events. Even though logically I know that they are dramatizing and embellishing most of it the fact there is a tiny kernal of truth in the story just freaks me out. Don't know if anybody has seen The Strangers but that scene where that guy just walks into the house and is standing there in the hallway silently watching her in the kitchen that was like an "OMG" moment for me because all of us at one point or another have been alone in a house and just minding our own business doing our own thing and just the thought of someone just breaking into your house and standing there watching you without you knowing is just sooo creepy!! After I saw that movie I kept doing the "double check" over my shoulder. I'd be walking in my house and then just suddenly turn around really fast just to be sure nothing was there. My mom said I looked like one of those chihuahuas that get scared and jump at everything lol. But I will admit it as much as I love my horror movies the reason I watch them is to get scared for some strange masochistic reason I have yet to figure out. I don't want to be terrified like with Exorcism movies, but I want a healthy dose of fear when I see something else. I want something to kind of stick with me just for a couple of days and then get over like with Signs or The Strangers. Being afraid should be a terrible thing but at the same time I don't know why myself and thousands of others love it so much. Maybe it is for the thrill of fear with the safety of it just being a movie that makes us watch these time and time again? I don't know what are your thoughts?

All of my friends love horror movies and they told me they genuinely love the feeling of being scared.
I can't stand movies that are realistic either. I heard that that's what made the conjuring so scary, as well as the strangers.

Cayla that is awesome that your mom is born on Halloween! I wish my son was born that day but since his birthday is only a week later we can still do a Halloween themed birthday party if he wants when he is older. He was born 11/7 and weighed 7lbs 7oz. We like to think of that being lucky 777. Halloween is still a big deal here. We live near a school, actually there is an elementary school, middle school, and high school all with in walking distance. This will be the first year we pass out candy (I should start stocking up now). My sons peanut allergy is the main reason we will be passing out candy this year and not trick or treating. Luckily there are candies that are peanut free, Tootsie is all nut free Halloween is my favorite holiday (only slightly beating out Christmas) and I love to decorate! The weather isn't very Halloween like where I live. Occasionally it will be cool, some years it has rained but usually it is a bit warm. I can't remember a year we went pumpkin picking and it wasn't hot Unfortunately Halloween is on a school night this year. My kids have never been able to where costumes to school (school rules) and I think it is very sad. I think The Ring got a lot of "shirt sniffs" from me.....creepy walking, face hidden behind her hair....the anticipation of what was going to happen. I can understand your fear of the Exorcist. I can't say I've watched any of them alone and probably never will. Australian accents - shortly after watching Wolf Creek we went to a restaurant and there was a man eating dinner with his family at the table right next to us. He had a nasty mustache and an Australian accent. All I could think about was that he was probably going to torture his family when they got home. He seriously gave me the heebie jeebies. I think it was also that his family was very quite and his wife seemed timid like he was a total jerk anyway. I can promise I wont be watching Wolf Creek on purpose again. LOL. Strangers! The masks were scary! Something about the burlap pieced together mask especially. It looks like Scarecrow's mask from Batman Begins. I hate that type of mask, very "Leatherface" like. I think the hallow, sunken in eye look scares the heck out of me too. Completely white eyes is another thing that freaks me out. I had a nightmare years ago about people with white eyes, no pupil, nothing. No way ugh uh, I wont even look! Your right in Strangers the whole sneaking up behind her scene.....Eeeeek! I have an issue with leaving the curtains open when it is dark. I can't do it! Staring out into darkness not knowing who or what is staring back.....I have good reason to be scared. When I was 13 I had a friend spend the night. I lived in an apartment complex at the time and our apartment was in the way back, the window to my room faced a block wall. It was night and we had the curtains open but started to change into our pajama's only to soon discover we were being watched by a man at the window. Talk about freaking out! Oh but that's not the end of my scary window experience. When I was 15 we lived in a house and I shared a room with one of my sisters. Our room faced the street. It was very late at night/early in the morning and we were asleep. I heard this strange scratching sound and woke up. I thought the sound was coming from the new kitten we had sleeping with us but when I looked at the kitten it was fast asleep. Sitting up in my bed I listened closer and heard the sound was coming from our window. A mans voice starting uttering all kinds of obscene things he was going to do to us when he got into our room. I woke my sister, got my mom, and she called the cops. First my mom threw the lights on in the bedroom which scared the pervert off. When the cops got there they found his bike on our lawn and visible evidence he was trying to break into our bedroom. They dusted for finger prints and couldn't get a good enough print. I hate windows at night! So yes those movies where someone is waiting and watching in the dark always scare the crap out of me. I can't watch those alone at all! Then there are movies like House Of A 1000 Thousand Corpses and The Hills Have Eyes, all around scary for me. There is the house off a rural highway that I have passed several times. It looks like an old plantation house and out of place for my northern California location. This house looks abandoned and my mind always imagines horrible things happening behind it's walls. A sadistic inbreed family, torturing broken down motorist. Of course I also imagine it being filled with secret passages and revolving bookcases. A perfect place to film a horror movie. If there is anything we can learn from horror movies it is while traveling at night in a rural area NEVER stop for anything, keep your curtains closed, lock your doors.....

Living in the midwest we have a hit or miss Halloween. Sometimes it is a perfect slightly chilly but not too cold Halloween night and then sometimes we have our Indian Summers where it is hot and humid. They say here if you don't like the weather, just wait a minute. Usually in September we start to get 60's like weather and breezes but it is still in the 80's over here but I can tell it is cooling down a bit since it hasn't been above 85 in the past two weeks.
As for eyes the sunken in eye look is creepy, but for some reason dolls eyes or manniquins realy freak me out the most. I don't like that they are made to replicate humans but they have absolutely no life to them so to me they look hollow and just wrong. I hate dolls. My grandmother collects dolls and makes dresses for them and stuff and everytime I go over there I give the doll cabinet a wide berth and keep my eyes on them suspiciously. I always expect to see one move or blink or something. I don't know I just know even when I was younger I always hated dolls.
And OMG those must have been terrifying experiences! I can't even imagine hearing that guy say those things and at that age as well. That is seriously scary! I had a somewhat similar experience only with our sliding glass doors that lead out to our backyard. I think I was 18 at the time, it was around midnight and I was just getting ready to fall asleep when I heard my dog's nails clicking back and forth over our kitchen floor. (It is wood and he was a boxer so it was loud) I thought it was strange because he was getting older and had hip problems so he didn't like being on the kitchen floor. In fact the only time he went on it was when we took him outside. So I just thought he needed to be let out. So I got up and went to the kitchen not thinking anything about it and he was just standing there staring at our sliding glass doors. We have those long full cover blinds over them so no one can see in or out unless you open them. Then he started just growling and even though he was a big dog he never growled as menacing as he was then. For some strange reason I thought maybe my mom was outside because sometimes she will get up in the middle of the night and she likes to read in our garage but she keeps the door shut. So I went to go open the door that led to the garage but when I put my hand on it I noticed it was locked from the inside...so she definitely wasn't out there. As I got closer to the sliding doors to open up the blinds my dog pushed his body in front of mine and he stood there growling and all of his fur was standing straight up and he was so rigid. I had never seen him like that before because he was such a docile dog despite his size. Now horror movie rules should have told me not to open the blinds, but like every other stupid blonde what did I do? Yep you guessed it opened them up anyways. What did I see? A guy was staring straight back at me through the glass and was trying to open our sliding glass doors. I was shocked and just stood there for a few seconds looking at him while my dog started barking and jumping on the glass. Despite my scary dog he just stood there and put his hands up to the glass and tapped on it like he was expecting me to let him in. After that I calmly turned around walked up the stairs woke up my parents by saying pretty calmly, "Mom, Dad, someone is trying to break into the house." You see they both had natural reactions and shot right out of bed alert while I was still in stupid numb land. My dad being a cop immediately got his gun and his radio and called it in. Then he went to the sliding doors and the guy wasn't there. So my dad looked around and found him in our front yard. Turned out he was just some really really drunk guy who thought he was at his friend's house who lived a block down. So nothing nefarious, but still I am glad that my dad put that wood block in front of our sliding glass doors so no one could break in and to this day I keep that block there all the time. I don't know what the hell was wrong with me that night because I wasn't scared or even slighlty paniced at all like any normal person should be. In fact the danger of it all didn't sink in until after I had to write down my police statement and then I realized "Holy crap that could have been really dangerous!" It was like I just didn't feel anything not really even shock more like my body and brain just went on autopilot. "Oh there is someone breaking into my house...maybe I should go tell mom and dad..." To this day my family wont let me live my nonchalant reaction down. You would think with all the horror movies I watch that I would know the rules in a real situation, but no. I was pretty much useless that day I am ashamed to say. But luckily it was all just a big misunderstanding. I can't imagine the left over fear you probably had the following nights especially since that guy was never caught. That just gives me chills thinking about it.

I can't say I've had a creepy experience with windows, but the people I babysit for don't have ANY blinds. I usually babysit for them on date nights, so I'm over there late. Plus, they have really young kids who go to bed around 8. Therefore, I sit downstairs in a quiet house, with no idea how to work their tv. It is the worst feeling ever!
As far as creepy buildings, there are a ton of them here! I only live a few hours away from all the mining towns where they do ghost tours. Whenever I drive through the mountains, it's scary but cool at the same time to picture the history in all those buildings. While my cousin was on a softball trip, she went on a ghost tour with her team. She was taking pictures of this historic building that used to be like a YMCA type organization. The first picture, all of the windows look completely normal. In the second picture, you can see part of the window covered as if something was standing there. Hopefully she will send them to me so I can show you! I LOVE ghosts and spirits. To me, there aren't scary because most seem to be harmful. Plus, I love how there's a historical factor to their lives.
