Hi everyone! I'm Rebecca, a 23 (on the 12th!) year old mom to a sweet two year old boy! I have been a lurker for quite some time. I found out about CBV a long time ago on YouTube by Kalel Cullen if any of you remember her beauty channel. Anyhow, I just made my first purchase on the weekend and can't wait for my products to come in! I bought Victoria's brown tart warmer, so I know that will do me well! I do however have a few questions! So I am starting out with scent shots. I've read to cut them into fourths to make them last longer. I will be only using it in my bedroom for now, so I'm assuming I won't have to leave it on for so long. Do the scents linger after you have turned the warmer off? Do I just leave the wax in there once I turn it off or should I remove it from the warmer? How exactly would I do that? How long do the scents last before it kind of dwindles out and you need to change it? I know I have so many questions but I seriously have never done this before, and before I came to this site I had no idea about throw/cure time, etc. How long should I let my scents sit before I use them? I had no idea this would make them last longer and I am already itching to use my tart warmer! :/ I will really have to be patient! Once I find different scents that become my favorite should I just order a candle in that scent to keep a lot on hand and scoop the wax into the warmer? Soo many questions! I'm sorry if any of these questions are dense, I am just a person who likes to know everything and feel prepared before I put things into action! And lastly, does Victoria have any scents that smell more like head-to-toe baby wash (Johnson's) or even Baby Magic head-to-toe? Baby shampoo as well? It is so overwhelming looking at her scent list! I just want everything, and since I am new I'm not sure what all the notes in her scents smell like! Thank you so much to those who are willing to help me! Sorry to be writing a book I just haven't found a lot of answers to the questions I have been wondering since I ordered my products! I'm glad to be here with you all and sharing in Victoria's amazing talents!

First off.. Welcome to the CBV Family.
I just received my first package yesterday, so I won't be able to answer most of your questions as I have not melted any of her scent shots yet. However, I can tell that most of the scent shots will need to cure a couple weeks before trying them. I think it is a smarter idea if you really enjoy a scent to buy them in one of scoopable products or the crumbles. It is more bang for your buck.

Hi, welcome to the boards Rebecca! We are glad to have you! As for the scents lingering it will depend more on what fragrance you get some tend to linger for days *cough Cinnabon cough* while others can disappear only after an hour or two *cough Banana Walnut cough* It all kind of comes down to how strong the scent is and what type it it is. In my personal experiance I think heavy bakery and perfume type fragrances last longer than say some spa like or Candleman's Closet fragrances tend to. As for the warmer many people do it differently I however wait until the wax hardens up again and cools once I turn off my warmer then I just pop the top little dish in the freezer overnight until it completely frozen then in the morning it usually will pop right out for me once I hit the bottom but if not I just use a butter knife to lift the edges and then it pops out. Here is a little video that might help explain my method better. Others have opted for the silicone method where you buy silicone baking cups such as cupcake cups and put those on top of your warmer and then put the chunk of wax in the silicone cup so once you turn off your warmer you can just pop the silicone cup in the freezer and pop the wax out that way without dirtying your warmer. As for how long the wax lasts it depends on how long the scent lasts. I usually turn off my warmer once the scent is completely gone or if I still want to smell something good I will just pop in another chunk of wax for whatever scent I want to smell. Technically wax is not something that goes bad so it can stay in your warmer until you clean it or it becomes full however it is best to clean out your warmer every 1-3 uses I believe. Still you can get a pretty big wax pool before having to clean it out. For cure time it again comes down to certain scents because others such as bakery scents can take longer to cure than others however a good rule of thumb is to let all shots cure at least a week and a half to two weeks. Basically if the scent smells like what you think it should it is ready. If it isn't or smells kind of "off" then let it cure. There are a few that may trick you into thinking they are ready before they are such as Blueberry Cheesecake or Pink Cupcake though. Those two smell pretty good cold but can take up to a month or so for true curing. But don't worry even if you use a hunk of wax the rest will still keep curing later on in the container. Same for candles. If you light it and melt it before it is done it wont hurt the rest of the candle from curing once you blow it out. It is kind of a guessing game. Basically it comes down to if you think the scent smells as it should smell based on description or what others on the board here say. Lol as for the candles vs scent shot debate it really comes down to personal preference. I myself for the most part am a shot girl just because it is easier to watch a tart warmer than an open flame in my book plus with children (I'm a nanny) I don't have to worry about them going toward a flame and I just keep my warmer out of reach. If you like a scent in a scent shot but think the scent throw is too overwhelming for you than try it in a candle. Most candles tend to have a teensy bit weaker throw than the scent shots but that is because the shots are meant to be tiny bursts of scents whereas candles are meant to maintain a long life span of scent time. And a great baby shampoo fragrance is Bath Time With Pooh. To me it smells exactly like Johnson's baby shampoo with a little bit of honey. BTWP is a CBV favorite for most CBV fans. They have a few other scents aimed more for nurseries such as pure Baby Powder and I believe Baby's Whisper. Don't be afraid to ask a ton of questions that is what we are all here for. When I started I had no idea about scent throws or cure times, heck I didn't even know what a warmer was. I was a candle girl back then. But as you purchase more and spend more time on the boards you really get to pick up on these things and about wick trimming and also about what scents your nose likes and which ones they really really dont. I hope this helps you some and if you have anymore questions feel free to ask away. All the lovely ladies (and a few gentlemen) will be happy to give you their two scents. What kind of fragrances are you looking to get?

Hi, welcome to the boards Rebecca! We are glad to have you! What kind of fragrances are you looking to get?
Ahh thank you so much!! I love how informative you were and it made it so much easier on me to understand all this stuff! So once the wax hardens and you take it out of your bowl how do you store it? Or do you just throw it away? I like the silicone idea, but would it effect the throw of the wax in any way? Are we talking like..cupcake sized silicone holders or ice cube size? I have heard so much about BTWP and I need to order it now! I was seriously excited that she had different perfume scents, especially Pink Sugar because it has been "my" scent since I was in high school! I got double excited when I realized I could get the same scent in body spray and lotion! Have you tried their bath products? Do the scents stay on you for a good while or do they tend to fade? I added...(crud) Raspberry Guava (?) to my list because I've been hearing a ton about that scent in both wax form and spray form. I'm thinking of getting that one as well! My first order I got the brown tart warmer. In scent shots I ordered Magnolia Blossom, Pink Sugar, Fruit Loops, Lemongrass, Breaking Dawn, Stress Relief, Abercrombie & Fitch, Love Spell, Autumn Leaves, Snuggle Baby, and Chai Tea. I keep adding scents to my list as I hear more about certain ones on this board and YouTube. Do you know of any good autumn/Christmas scents that are "must haves"? I like bakery scents but only to an extent. I'm not a huge fan of cinnamon in bakery form, but if it has like a Christmas tree scent mixed with it or like earthy notes, I like it. So far on my list (other than the ones I already ordered) I have: Sophie Bell, Fantasy Type, Banana Nut Bread, Brooke's Delight, Bubble Gum, Caribbean Coconut, Exotic, Bahama Mama, BTWP, Eggnog, Christmas Tree, Holiday Homebrew, Victorian Christmas, Godfather, Rain, Candy Corn, Marshmellow Campfire, Mexican Chocolate, Rice Crispy Treats, Trix Are For Kids, Frangipani, Lavendar & Basil, Field of Dreams, Masculine Musk, and Rose. Kind of all over the place but it's a start! I'm not sure if you know of the Glade scent Cashmere Wood, but do you know if she has a scent that resembles that? It's my all time favorite and would love to be able to warm it up!

As far as a Chrsitmas scent, one of my favorites is Chrsitmas lane! It smells like Christmas trees sprinkled with cinnamon!

Hello and welcome Rebecca I also use the freezer method to pop my wax out. 8 out of 10 times 15 minutes in the freezer does the trick for me. Sometimes I am lucky and just the pressure from my thumb will pop the frozen wax out. If this doesn't work I will use a butter knife around the edge to pry it out. This method has only worked for me with the hard scent shot wax. Candle wax, gelato wax and the scoop some scent are much softer and have never froze completely for me. The silicone baking cups are perfect for the softer wax and I use them directly in the warmer dish. I prefer the hard wax like the scent shots or cube melts. Cube melts, and crumb melt are a great alternative to candles if you find yourself wanting melt wax more than burn a candle. I in no way want to steer you away from buying any of the gorgeous CBV candles. I myself have my eyes on quite a few. If you get a candle and find yourself not wanting to burn you still have the option of scooping the candle wax and melting it in your warmer. Scents I can suggestthat are good for fall and Christmas are Sugared Spruce, Christmas Memories and Under The Harvest Moon. Bonfire Bliss is a great cold weather scent.

I added both of your opinions to my list! Thank you solo much!! If I have anymore questions what section would I use to do so? I'm so excited to start diving in with these scents. This will easily be my new hobby. Are there any good Halloween scents?

Once the wax hardens and I pop it out I usually just throw it away because I personally only use a forth of a shot at a time and I melt it until the scent is all gone before I take it out so what is left is just a plain disc of wax. However if you still have some scent left in your wax and you want to use it again later just keep it placed somewhere out of direct sunlight. Some people put their discs in ziplock bags but I have heard the plastic can actually absorb some of the oils so another way I have hear of storing them is with parchment or wax paper. It is pretty cheap just cut a tiny sheet and seperate your wax discs with it. The only way the silicone cups will effect your wax is after a while of using the silicone cups over and over again the silicone cups might start to retain some smells from the previous wax that was melted so over time it may get a "funky" smell thanks to all of the combined bits of previous wax. But when that happens just throw that one away and use a new one. And you will probably want to use a pretty decent sized silicone cup just because you want to have a way for a wax pool and also the bigger the opening the more the scent throw can get out of the cup. I have heard of the cupcake ones as popular but also some opt for the decorative kind like the bigger snowmen or heart shaped silicone cups. You really can't go wrong as long as you make sure whatever you get is indeed silicone. The only bath products I have tried have been the small soap shots. They smelled great but I have extremely dry skin so they made my skin feel a little tight so if you have incredibly dry skin like me I would purchase a soap shot first just to try out before commiting to a bigger soap bar. I have heard that the body sprays and sugar scrubs are really amazing though. Everytime someone wants a fall scent I always point them to Under The Harvest Moon. To me it embodies what fall smells like. It has a bit of a dried leaves smell (don't let that scare you away) with the tiniest pinch of some spice (it is hardly noticeable but just adds soemthing) and then a big whiff of fresh autumn air. It is a staple for me. I also recommend Leaves Type and Autumn Apple for fall scents. As for Christmas scents like Lisa suggested Sugared Spruce sounds like it would be good for you. I haven't had it personally (it is on my next order list though) but I have heard many good things about it and it is supposed to smell like lightly sweetened trees. And if you like minty scents then Sweet Snow is a personal fav for me. It is just straight up peppermint with vanilla. It is good to melt if you are feeling stuffy nosed or nauseous. If you have anymore questions you can post a thread in the Chit Chat section, the Fragrance Talk, section, the My Favorite Things section, or the Bath & Body section. You can also post in the ask Victoria section but Victoria does not come on the boards all that often do to her busy schedule so I will most likely be the one to answer it but if you have a question specifically for Victoria you can always email her and she almost always replies to those. You can pretty much post something anywhere on the board. I don't think we ladies here are big sticklers about stuff like that. If you happen to post in the wrong section it is no big deal and I can always move it to the correct thread later if it bothers someone. So feel free to post away. Halloween scents all depend on what kind of fragrances you like. I know a fan favorite here is Bite Me though and it smells like cherry and other fruit sparkling punch. I personally love Monster Mash but it smells like blueberries and pie crust. Witch's Brew smells like a mixed fruit cider and it kind of reminds me of a craft store during the fall. Trick Or Treat is kind of a buttery sweet caramel corn fragrance. 3 new Halloween fragrances have been added just this month and those are Cider Web, Sleepy Hollow, and I Put A Smell On You. Since they are brand new I haven't tried them yet but I know a lot have ordered them so I'm just waiting to see a review for some of them to pop up as soon as someone gets theirs. As for the Glade dupe I have not personally smelt that one so I'm not sure how much these will smell like it but they have one called Cashmere Forest which sounds pretty similar to it and then they have one called just plain Cashmere in the perfume category. So hopefully onw of those will be what you are looking for.

Welcome, Rebecca!
I ordered my first CVB candles in June and began collecting scent shots in July. The bakery scented scent shots that I received less than eight weeks ago are not quite cured yet, but the fruits and florals are much quicker.
I always use the Silicone cupcke baking cups that I ordered from Amazon. A quarter Scent Shot will work in a mini cup. I use a cupcake size for a half scent shot. I never freeze anything. I have been sampling scents to try to choose my Fall and Winter selections in time to order candles and cure them before I hope to enjoy them. It has been very convenient to gather four scents to compare, place a quarter shot in each of four mini cups, melt them one at a time, and after I sample the scent I can pick up the cup (which is half full of melted wax) with a thumb and one finger from both hands and set it aside on my countertop to cool, which they do rather rapidly (air conditioning may speed that up). Then on to melting the next scent. I haven't spilled more than one tiny cup of wax and I just let it cool and harden and scraped it off the counter.
I've just begun to have one scent melting for four hours or so, but I haven't been thinking about how long the scents linger. My assumption has not been to expect scents to linger but to leave them melting for as long as I want that Scent "on". I'll be more conscious about it and report back to you.
I think a Scent Diffuser (Page 11) is just what you need, after you have cured enough Scent Shots to choose a fragrance.
