Hello everyone!
I'm Hanna, I'm from North Carolina and recently moved last week to Oregon for a new job. I've actually purchased from Candles by Victoria eons ago, when I was watching a video from AllthatGlitters21. I remembered it was one of those 6 package samplers kinds and then for some reason the interest faded away. My boyfriend loves to cook so while he has been cooking I've been lemming for some nice scented candles. Scents and smells for me bring memories so I guess I've been kind of nostalgic after the move. Just wanted to pop in and say hi, I've been reading this forum for a couple of days now and devised my first order from the reviews I've been reading from queentakesjack and disalan. I just purchased a cute owl shaped electronic tart warmer from Michaels (24 watt, thanks for the tip everyone) and ready to sniff my order once it arrives! I don't have a refined sense of smell (I probably can't tell the difference from a hyacinth flower vs a lavender HA~!) but I might give a review to share my thoughts. I'm pretty intrigued by all of the descriptions people have been using.
I chose my first order based on all of the reviews I've read on this forum and from a hodge podge of different blogs:
Mini Jelly Jar Candle Cajun Cornbread Pizzelle Bhushing Peaches Sea Salt and Rice Flower Breath of Ireland Fizzy Pop Iris and Fern Iced Orange Pineapples
Scent Shot Sugared Corn Pudding Lemon Meringue Pie Honeysuckle Rose (only scent I haven't read a review on! Honeysuckle makes me think of NC summers...) Watermelon Cupcake
I'm already making a wishlist of scents I've been wanting to try for my next order. I tried to get a different spread of smells but I'm probably gravitating towards the bakery scents a tad. I'm also trying to find some scents that are good to use after food smells. Boyfriend and I cook a variety of Korean, southern style food, Italian, sometimes Indian, Thai and other kinds of foods so any advice on some scents after cooking will be appreciated!

Hi Hanna! Welcome to the boards we are glad you decided to join us! Some scent after cooking I don't know if you are like me but sometimes after a heavy meal I want a fresh or lighter scent so I will melt something either clean or fruity smelling. Whistlin Dixie is one of my faves it smells like summer in a cotton field to me. But really any light fragrance will balance out any heaviness of your meal. I do that so if I am full I won't feel sick once I smell more food bakery type fragrances. You got a lot of really great scents. Sugared Corn Pudding is one of those that everyone should have in their collection. Pizelle is also one of my favorite bakery scents. And everyone needs to try Fizzy Pop at least once. I personally love it but it is worth a scent shot just for the carbonation like bubbles that you smell. IT is kind of like a fun novelty scent you can't get anywhere else plus it makes a great mixing scents. I hope you like your candles and I hope to see you more on the board..

Hello Hanna!
I want to hear about Honeysuckle Rose after it cures, please?
My florals have been taking about six weeks to cure and my bakery scents four to six months. I haven't been here a year yet and haven't placed orders as balanced across the scent types as Disalan does, as I was SO fascinated by the bakery scents for Fall and Winter, so I really struggled with my patience last year. This year I will order Fall/Winter/Holiday Scents in May. You ordered a lovely variety of scent types.
I always write the date received on my Scent Shots and Candles so I know when it is not time to be disappointed that they are not cured yet. It is SO lovely when one I've been waiting on cures and is FABULOUS. Pecan Pie was my last WOW. I won't say that my nose is educated enough to discern pastry and nuts but I LOVED it. It was simply warm, sweet, super yummy baked goods fragrance with a good throw. Rather like Caramelized Pralines amped up! You can probably trim the wicks on your mini jelly jar candles with scissors. When you order a larger candle you will want a proper Wick Trimmer because keeping the wicks tidy is critical to a smoke free perfect burn.

Enjoy your goodies!

Glad to you have you here Hanna! Great order! You got a great a mix of scents to try out. I never thought I'd love bakery scents as much as I do (I own my bakery scents than any other single scent category I've just learned). I love lots of scents from many categories and definitely encourage stepping outside your scent comfort zone every now and then. There have been quite a few orders that the free scent shot ended up being my favorite I'd also love to know what you think about Honeysuckle Rose. I have Honeysuckle Peach which smells beautiful cold, I just need to finally break down and melt it. YUM to the foods you and your boyfriend cook! Spicy scents or clove scents might be good for clearing food smells out of the air.

Hey queentakesjack! That definitely makes sense with having something lighter after a full meal. I actually don't even have a preference of what kind of smells I like to have so hopefully I'll figure it out in due time. Meanwhile, I have no qualms with experimenting and ordering. Heehee! I'll put Whistlin Dixie for my next order, thanks for the advice!
AbbieJolie, I sure will update you on what Honeysuckle Rose smells like! You definitely hit my nervousness about these candles and scent shots. I know a lot of people say that you will just know something is ready to be used but I don't know my nose is trained enough for that kind of stuff yet. Good to know that bakery things take a little longer. I might order some more florals for Spring/Summer for my next order. CharmedLeo is a first, I haven't heard of him but I'll look him up!
Disalan, thank you for the welcome! That's a great suggestion for clove/spicy being an after scent. Speaking of reaching out to new scents - I'm not a huge spicy scent fan but like you mentioned I won't know for sure unless I try! I might go for something clove-y and see how it works out. I read somewhere in a different post (and on queentakesjack) that you love Pink Chiffon and I wanted to let you know I LOVE it in the original. So I'll definitely be ordering that in the future in a candle or scent shot.
Thanks everyone for the warm welcome!

That is why I gave you estimated time frames for curing. I have a bouquet of floral candles arriving tomorrow. I will date them and check them every two weeks. At six weeks I will light them to see if they are fabulous warm if not cold.

CBV is really a great way to find out your scent preferences and to discover new ones. I always used to consider myself a floral hater since I just couldn't stand most flowery products in other candles or perfumes, but since trying several of Victoria's floral fragrances I came to realize that I'm not a floral hater I just am sensitive to the really strong ones. I actually ended up liking a lot of Vic's lighter floral scents. In fact Sophie Belle is one of my favorites. So it is definitely worth it to try and branch out of your comfort zone here and there. With the scent shots it allows you to try many different scents without breaking your bank too much. Plus we have Round Robins on here a lot which are a good and economical way to swap out the scents we didn't care for, for new ones we might like.
