So I noticed that one of my wacky wax habits is that I like to keep my mostly cured scents by my computer desk to where I can smell them every now and then and see if they are completely ready to melt. My friends and family just shake their heads at me because I keep like 15 of them in easy reach every day right by my monitor. And recently I was reading about how Disalan has a ritual of cleaning out her warmers after every scent, which led me to remember that I believe jennsrandomworld buys her scents in alphabetical order. I think it is fascinating seeing how others use their CBV stuff. So what are some of your quirky wax habits? Do you seperate your wax by colors maybe? Do you only melt scents based on the season you are in or aren't in? What are some of the funny things you guys do?!

I don't know how wacky any of this stuff is, but I write the date that I receive the wax on everything, and I have a few different places where I keep wax and I will store complete orders together. I mostly melt things in the order I receive them. I don't like to get into a new order until I've gone through the previous one, although lately I've gotten impatient and given a few things only a couple of weeks to cure when I still had plenty of older stuff. I mostly let everything cure for two months before I melt it, which is a lot easier to do now that I have way too much wax. I always keep at least 1 scent shot in my purse, sometimes my entire most recent order if it wasn't too big and take them out and smell them every day to see how they're curing or just to relax. I also smell my most recent orders at home every night to check on them, and keep some scent shots or candles by my bed to smell them before going to sleep, or if I can't sleep in the middle of the night. And I've used Gelato/Scent shots as perfume.

It is probably a smart thing to keep the date you get your wax so you can be sure how long you've let certain scents cure. I am like you in that I don't get into another order until I've tried at least a quarter of every scent shot I got in my last order. I never would have thought to store a scent shot in my purse to take out or to use as perfume in a pinch. That's a pretty good idea. I have heard of keeping an open scent shot in your glove compartment in your car to keep it smelling nice though I have not tried it personally.
Also like you I order my shots two month in advance to make sure they are completely cured when I go to melt them. I just recieved my October order today so I am giving them a quick sniff tonight before bed before I put them away for safe curing.

It isn't the strongest perfume, but it works! One time I rubbed my Raspberry Violet SS on my wrists, and I went somewhere and a stranger commented on how good I smelled, lol.

I always print out my receipt so I have a list of what I ordered and when. I always type up a list of the scents from each order and add their scent descriptions. This eliminates the need to access the master fragrance list when I am sniffing my new scent shots, which is pretty much a nightly routine for the first week or two after I receive them. Alphabetizing these list makes it super easy to find the scent I'm looking for. I do not have my own master list for all of the scents I own instead I just keep the scents and their descriptions together per order. I store my scent shots in a dvd type cabinet with the three shelves. I group my scent shots according to when they were ordered. Unused scents shots are on the top shelf and ones I have tried are on the middle shelf. The oldest unused scent shots are on the far right and the newest are to the left. I have grouped my new unused bakery scents together. I have recently alphabetized the scent shots I have tried but they are stacked high and in in many rows so putting them back in their proper place with out knocking a few over is hard. I need to re-think how I want to organizethe scents I have tried. The bottom shelve houses my 9oz candles (easy to stack) cube melts (one for now) and scent shot discs that have lots of scent left. I keep the disc in cello bags which are labeled. It calms me when I sniff my new scent shots and I like being able to smell a change in some from when I first got them.
About the scent shot in the car - We had the grand idea of getting containers like the scent shot containers and putting a few cube melts (same wax as the scent shot) in the container and poking holes in the lid. This alone wasn't scenting up the car like we had hoped. We went to the store and my husband thought maybe we should put the container on the dash with the lid off while we went grocery shopping. This was last week! Dead of summer and hot as hell. The bottom of the container cracked and melted wax dripped all over the dash of our mini-van. It smelled LOVELY but it was a big mess. On that same note people have been talking about using a plug in for the car that is usually used with essential oils. I saw one at my local Whole Foods and will probably buy one to be used with the CBV refresher oils. So be very careful using wax in plastic containers in hot cars. A different more sturdy container may have worked better but I think the aromatherapy plug in might the way to go.

Not sure if any of my habits are wacky.
-I sniff my scent shots often. -I used to organize them by color. But now I organize them by vendor. -I keep a list of the ones I've bought and the ones I want to try.

I don't even want to think about the nightmare that must have beeen disalan to get the wax off of your dashboard. The refresher oils sounds like a great idea though.

I keep my scent shots by my bed to sniff them everyday!! Also, I stack my scents if they coordinate: fruity bakery, fall, Christmas, and fruity. I buy my scent shots in alphabetical order too!

So far I'm dating all the labels so I have an idea how old each item is.
I'm storing unmelted scent shots in little 5-drawer organizers from Walmart. I just bought a 3-drawer but larger organizer for scent shots and their hardened melted quarters after I've gotten to audition them the first time in the tart warmer. Mind you, I don't have a hundred scent shots yet. I need to get some cello bags. i'm using some Rubbermaid sandwich containers for right now.
I don't have a sniffing schedule except that Fall and Holiday fragrances are a priority for July, so I'll go through all of them weekly until I can discern my favorites.

I currently have 4 different containers that I store my shots in. I have one full of nothing but my absolute top favorites, then another one filled with shots that I just like, then I have a shoe box where I keep the shots that I either didn't like or wouldn't mind swapping in round robins. I didn't bother buying a container for those ones lol And then I have another container where I keep my specialty wax like the Gingerbread Men tarts Shannon gave me for last year's secret santa, my Slap Yo momma Smoothie candle, and some 8oz jars. I also keep shots that only have 1 tiny hunk left in that last container so that I will always know when I am running out of certain scents. I store all of my precious wax underneath my bed *gotta protect them from sneaky wax horders like my mother who keeps taking my pumpkin scents to burn up stairs lol*. I burn my wax until it is all gone so I don't have to keep up with storing and labeling the wax discs. It is just easier for me personally to melt only a 4th of a shot at a time unless the scent is weak then I will just put in half a shot.

I never worry about wax discs either queentakesjack. If I know I really like a scent I'll just buy it in a candle, but usually getting four uses out of a scent is enough for me!

Maybe I can settle down and enjoy one fragrance for a day or two after I finish this auditioning and comparison phase that I'm in. Some days I will compare four Similar scents, using silicone baking cups, to choose a favorite from them. This should calm down by October. Something to look forward to.

I only save the wax discs if it was a scent that I really liked but someone in my house like my husband just couldn't stand. I'll turn off the warmer after the scent has melted completely but the wax still has a lot of scent left. Why torture a person? There really have only been 3 scents he just couldn't handle. I don't really have the room to store too many discs so I'm not sure how long I'll continue saving them. If I really don't care for a scent, I'll pull the plug and *gasp* toss it out. I only melt a 1/4 at a time so I still have 3/4 of that scent to try again. I always plan to give the ones I didn't like a second chance at some point.
As Queentakesjack mentioned, I clean my warmer dish every time I change out the wax. I feel this gives each new scent a fresh start and a fair chance to woo me over with out mixing with any residual scent from the prior scent shot.
More often than not I melt more than one scent a day. Here is what I have noticed about which scents I tend to pick depending on what time of day it is. I go for fruity, tropical, bright scents in the day and at night I usually pick a bakery, warm, relaxing, musky, or earthy scent. Scents like Satsuma, Coconut Lemongrass, or Tokyo Spring are scents that appeal to me in early part of the day. Cinnamon Donuts, Bath Time With Pooh, Lavender Vanilla, and Bonfire Bliss are examples of scents that I would want to melt or burn at night.
I don't want to consider myself a seasonal burner because scents like Sugared Spruce and Maui Luau I'd melt any time of year. However there have been scents that I have melted that do remind me of specific seasons and I feel that they should be a staple in my collection during those seasons. Under The Harvest Moon is the perfect Fall scent in my opinion. Bora Bora and Life IS A Beach are amazing for Summer. Daffodil and Tokyo Spring have me dreaming of tulips and cherry blossoms. Cold December Night and Peppercorn, great for Winter.
